Dr. Allene Fonseca Katz is currently a dermatology resident physician at Wayne State University. She is an Orange County, California native and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health Science at the University of California, Irvine. She earned her medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and completed her residency in internal medicine at Loma Linda University Medical Center and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. After residency she served as Medical Director of a Federally Qualified Health Center in Los Angeles, California.
She completed a Dermato-epidemiology fellowship with a focus in teledermatology at Brown University, Providence VA Medical Center and a Cutaneous Oncology Clinical Research Fellowship with a focus on Merkel cell carcinoma for Dr. Paul Nghiem at the University of Washington, Division of Dermatology.
She has served as the president of her medical school Student Council, a leader in the Student National Medical Association, a Chief Wellness Resident for her Internal Medicine Residency Program, and as the cosmetic liaison of her dermatology residency program.
She gives talks at high schools and volunteers at health fairs in underserved areas. She currently serves as the AAD Resident Ambassador for Wayne State University and the Diversity Equity and Inclusion Chair of the Graduate Medical Education Resident Council. She has published work in JAAD and many other peer-reviewed journals.
