Welcome to module 15 as we set up a comprehensive approach to care for patients with psoriasis!

Update on the Pathophysiology of Psoriasis

This session will review the pathophysiology of psoriasis.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Recall the pathogenesis of psoriasis
  2. Review risk factors for psoriasis
  3. Identify comorbidities for psoriasis

Psoriasis Therapeutics Update

Review allopathic treatment approaches to psoriasis

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe four factors to consider when developing a psoriasis treatment plan
  2. List four topical treatment options for psoriasis
  3. Categorize systemic treatment options for psoriasis

Psoriasis: Let's Get Cooking 

Many patients with psoriasis have tried dietary modifications, which makes it more important than ever that physicians provide evidence-based advice on dietary changes that may help reduce the risk of systemic comorbidities as well as reduce the severity of psoriasis. In this lecture, dietary factors that may act as helpers or triggers for psoriasis will be reviewed.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain to patients the research supporting the impact of weight loss interventions in overweight or obese patients with psoriasis
  2. Identify patients who may benefit from a gluten-free diet
  3. Identify patients who may benefit from a structured lifestyle intervention program to prevent diabetes and achieve weight loss

After finishing Medical School and Dermatology Residency at the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Bodemer completed a fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. She was the first Dermatologist to be board certified in both Dermatology and Integrative Medicine and currently is the only Dermatologist to serve on the Integrative Medicine Board. She has authored academic texts and curriculum and has spoken widely on a variety of topics related to Integrative Dermatology. She has always been drawn to exploring how lifestyle choices impact skin health and disease and feels that the most powerful role a physician can play is as an educator and guide, empowering people to get healthy and stay healthy.

Dr. Rajani Katta is a board-certified dermatologist, the author of nine books, and a member of the clinical faculty of both the Baylor College of Medicine and the McGovern Medical School. She is the author of numerous medical journal articles on the link between skin and diet and allergic reactions of the skin. 

Her latest book, Glow: The Dermatologist's Guide to a Whole Foods Younger Skin Diet, provides an evidence-based and practical approach to eating for younger skin. She maintains a blog at www.KattaMD.com.
