In a personalized approach to health, one should also take into consideration the multifactorial etiologies of nutrient deficiencies. In that context, supplementation can be suggested temporarily until the right balanced diet is achieved, lifestyle changes are applied, and the root cause of deficiency is addressed.
Ana Virginia Jofili, MD is an Integrative Pediatrician practicing in Santa Monica,CA. She graduated medical school from the University of Pernambuco, Brazil and completed her Pediatric residency and fellowship in Neonatology at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. She also completed Pediatric residency at White Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA, is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine, and she is a certified MD by the Institute for Functional Medicine.
Sabrina Magno is a certified nutritionist, lactation educator, First Line Therapist practitioner, and an activist for food diversity, sustainability, and the environment. She has also previously worked for a government-funded nutritional program designed to safeguard the health of low-income families. There she was able to share her passion for breastfeeding, advocated food as medicine, and made a positive impact on a disadvantaged population who had been targeted by unhealthy food marketing.
Sabrina completed her nutritional medicine certification at The American University of Complementary Medicine in 2005 where she studied under Diana Noland, MPH, RD, CCN, LD. DIFM, who was on the Faculty of the Institute for Functional Medicine. In 2007 Sabrina completed her Lactation Educator training at UCLA. Sabrina has additional training and certification in Blood Chemistry Analysis, Functional Endocrinology, Applying Advanced Nutritional Strategies for Autoimmune Diseases, Mastering Brain Chemistry, Understanding Gluten sensitivity, and Leaky Gut. These modules of training were sponsored by the University of Bridgeport and taught by Dr. Datis Kharrazian. DHSc, DC, MS, Ph.D. in 2007. Additionally, Sabrina completed certifications on Applying Personalized Lifestyle Medicine, Understanding the Origins, and Applying Advanced Nutritional Strategies for Autoimmune Diseases taught by Jeffrey Bland, Ph.D., in 2008.
Dr. Rivera is a board certified pedicatrician in General Pediatrics and Pediatrics and Infectious Disease. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and completed her fellowship at the University of Arizona in Integrative Medicine. She furthered her education by continuing a second fellowship at the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine at the University Western States in Oregon. She served as past President of the Los Angeles Pediatric Society. She is a clinical assistant professor of Pediatrics affiliated with Family Care Specialist and the Keck School of Medicine.
She has worked at White Memorial Medical Center for over twenty five years and recently opened up her own private practice. She teaches training residents in family practice and physician assistants from Keck USC. She precepts PA students from USC and SCU (Souther California University of Health Science). She works in a busy practice in an under-served area near downtown. She trained at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles where she completed her internship and residencey followed by fellowship training in Infectious Disease. She worked in the emergency room as an attending during her stay at Children's but felt a commitment to return to the community. She has done research and published articles in vaccine related, infectious diseases, general pediatrics and integrative issues.
She is vested in helping the community where she was raised. Her mission is to treat patients in a respectful manner that is nurturing to the mind and body. Using both allopathic and integrative medicine, this healing process empowers the patient to understand that choosing wellness and whole person care influences the patient to achieve overall optimal health. The tools learned in Integrative Medicine and nutrition can decrease the increasing rates of chronic diseases and improve overall health.
