Practical Application of Integrative Modalities

The IECP introduces students to concepts not commonly explored in esthetics school. This final module covers topics that will assist students in the practical application of the theory introduced in previous modules and lessons.

Advanced Skin Analysis

This lesson identifies common diseases and disorders that an esthetician may come in contact with. It also highlights lesser known diseases of which the esthetician should be aware. Students will learn how ethnic differences in skin physiology can influence proper skin analysis.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Define what a Clinical Environment is.
  2. Review the difference between “non-invasive” and “invasive” treatments
  3. Review follicular and mimicking disorders such as papulopustular conditions, cystic conditions, acne rosacea, and milia
  4. Review pathogenic and infectious diseases such as molluscum contagiosum, pityriasis alba, and seborrheic dermatitis

Additional Complimentary Modalities

Do you have a desire to utilize the more subtle modalities? Learn to incorporate energetic modalities and aromatherapy to achieve a multi-sensorial experience for your clients.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Summarize the different methods to channel energy such as Pranic Healing, Reiki, and Scalar energy
  2. Review how to balance chakras with crystals
  3. Discuss sound therapy
  4. Describe an aromatherapy treatment
  5. Review how to create a sanctuary in the treatment room
  6. Define the importance of practicing Mindfulness.

Combining Ancient Rituals and Advanced Modalities

Ancient wisdom compliments modern science. In this lesson students will learn safe and effective ways to combine concepts from Ayurveda and TCM with the clinical approach. A sample case study and panel discussion will be highlighted to illustrate the efficacy of combining protocols and how to integrate modalities into your practice.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Recall how lifestyle choices impact skin health
  2. List steps in a treatment and how to customize protocols using integrative philosophies
  3. Review an integrative treatment protocol
  4. Compare techniques for combining integrative and clinical practice modalities into the treatment room

Creating a Successful Integrative Practice

Now that you have a new set of modalities to use in your business, it’s time to work on your business. This lesson helps students manage the financial responsibilities of owning and operating an integrative skin care practice. 

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Review the the seven steps of building a business
  2. Recall importance of calculating cost of treatments
  3. Demonstrate how to implement a retail sales strategy
  4. Design packages and memberships as part of a marketing strategy
  5. Discuss practice building strategies
  6. Create a professional and referral network

How to Collaborate with Other Healthcare Professionals 

Have you ever wanted to create a network of wellness professionals? This lesson explores the process of collaborating with like-minded practitioners from various modalities. 

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate how to identify local integrative practitioners
  2. Review how to collaborate with like-minded practitioners
  3. Discuss the importance of relevant vocabulary 
  4. Evaluate when to refer out to a dermatologist or integrative practitioner

Dr. Peter Lio is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Pediatrics at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School, completed his internship in Pediatrics at Boston Children's Hospital, and his Dermatology training at Harvard where he served as Chief Resident in Dermatology. Dr. Lio is the founding director of the Chicago Integrative Eczema Center and has spoken nationally and internationally about atopic dermatitis, as well as alternative medicine.

CJ received her state licensure in aesthetics after completing one thousand hours of training - she was awarded the General Occupational/Technical Studies Outstanding Graduate Recognition and consistently made the Dean’s list throughout her studies. She also has a Master of Science, a Touch for Health certification since 1989, a Reiki practitioner since 2013, and holds her DermaplanePro certification. She has received additional training in Eminence and OsmosisMD Skincare, Celluma LED treatments, Ayurveda/Kansa Wand training and DoTerra Aromatherapy. Raised in Honolulu, her upbringing always included the integration of mind, body and spirit in beauty and wellness, not just addressing the symptoms. Looking at the skin as your largest organ and as a reflection of what is going on inside and on all levels, has fueled her passion for discovery of the best way to reveal your most beautiful skin. Prior to moving to Kentucky, she owned and operated a Training and Consulting Firm specializing in Strategic Image Development (a “finishing school” for professionals).

He is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Clinical Dermatology at the University of California, Davis and Director of Clinical Research and the Clinical Trials Unit.He is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the California State University, Sacramento and an Associate Professor of Dermatology at California Northstate University, College of Medicine.He engages in clinical practice as well as both clinical and translational research that integrates bioengineering, nutrition, cosmetics, and skin biology. With training in both Allopathic and Ayurvedic medicine, he takes an integrative approach to his patients and in his research.He has published over 100 peer-reviewed research manuscripts, 10 textbook chapters, and a textbook entitled Cosmeceuticals and Active Cosmetics, 3rd Edition with a passion for expanding the evidence and boundaries of integrative medicine for skin care.

She was the first Dermatologist to be board certified in both Dermatology and Integrative Medicine and currently is the only Dermatologist to serve on the Integrative Medicine Board. She has authored academic texts and curriculum and has spoken widely on a variety of topics related to Integrative Dermatology. Aliesh Pierce, LE is the author of Milady’s Aesthetics Series: Treating Diverse Pigmentation, a textbook educating estheticians about multi-ethnic protocols. She began her career in the beauty industry as a makeup artist in Milan. Moving back to the states, she attracted celebrity clients like Queen Latifah, India. Arie, Ming Na Wen, and the Obama family. However, when she wanted to get to the core of her client’s concerns, she turned to skincare and has been a licensed esthetician for 17 years.

 

Her aesthetics career includes holding positions as the Director of Education for DMK Skin Revision and Veria Ayurvedic Skincare, the Marketing Manager for R&E Cosmetics Labs, and the Product Training Specialist for Vitality Institute. She also had a hand in formulating products for Daily Concepts and the new Viola Rouge cosmetics line.

 

Aliesh has been the keynote speaker at conferences all over the United States, as well as Switzerland, Italy, and China.

 

She currently divides her time working as an independent consultant, creating courses for her e-learning platform AskAliesh.com, and offering transformative skincare services at her skin treatment studio in Philadelphia, PA.
