Join us for private, small group hands-on workshops for IDCP students and alumni.

Here are a few travel tips to prepare for the trip:

  • Recommended arrival anytime on Tuesday, Sptember 24 and departure after 4pm PST on Sunday, September 29
  • There are two possible airports to travel into when going to Arlington. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is located approximately 12 miles northwest of Loews Arlington Hotel. Dallas Love Field (DAL) is located approximately 23 miles northeast of Loews Arlington Hotel. To get to the hotel from these airports, travelers can do the following:
    • Taxi, Uber and Lyft are among the most common options.
    • DFW offers public transportation options. Read here to learn more.
    • DAL also provides public transportation services. Read here to learn more.
  • We will capture your dietary preferences in your IDS registration or please reply with any restrictions if not yet registered for IDS.

Gut Microbiome Testing: Case Reviews

This session will explore the major features of gut microbiome testing and highlight critical aspects to assess when reviewing test results. It will provide insights into the clinical relevance of various microbiome markers and demonstrate how to develop personalized treatment plans that effectively incorporate these findings. Practical tools for supporting gut health and optimizing outcomes will also be covered.

  • Identify the major features of gut microbiome testing
  • Discuss what features to review when assessing gut microbiome testing
  • Develop a treatment plan that incorporates the results of gut microbiome testing

Integrative Case-Based Practicum

Enhance your clinical skills during this session with dermatology case study examples focusing on integrative approaches. Learn to blend conventional and alternative therapies for optimal patient outcomes. After sharing integrative dermatology tips and examples, the session will break out into smaller groups with case scenarios for more integrative case management practice.

  • Recall integrative therapies and modalities that can be utilized in dermatology
  • Develop integrative treatment plans tailored to dermatology patients
  • Review patient education materials and how to implement them into integrative patient visits

Lunch Product Theatre Sponsored by UCB: Chronic Inflammatory Diseases: The Influence of the Microbiome & Considerations for Holistic Patient Care

As part of this program, we will consider microbiome imbalances observed in chronic inflammatory diseases and the potential impact of the microbiome on these diseases. We will also discuss holistic care considerations to highlight the multiple factors that can affect the health and well-being of patients living with chronic inflammatory diseases. Finally, we will explore patient care and outcomes in individual clinical care settings, highlighting best practices and other ways that management can make a positive impact.

Motivational Interviewing Workshop

Discover effective communication techniques to engage and motivate your patients. This interactive workshop will equip you with the skills to foster behavioral change and improve adherence to treatment plans. After introducing the skill of motivational interviewing, the session will break out into smaller groups with case scenarios and doctor-patient role playing for more hands on practice. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss what motivational interviewing is and how it can be applied in a dermatologic clinical practice environment
  • Identify key principles and core communication techniques utilized in motivational interviewing
  • Review resources for motivational interviewing theories, principles and practice

The Science Behind Sound Healing & Frequencies

This session will explore the scientific principles and therapeutic applications of sound healing and frequencies. Attendees will gain an understanding of how different sound frequencies can affect the human body and mind, and how these principles are applied in various therapeutic practices. The session will also examine the latest research on the efficacy of sound healing techniques and their potential benefits in dermatology clinical settings.

Learning Objectives: 

  • Describe the difference between music therapy and sound therapy
  • Discuss the role resonance and vibration play in sound therapy
  • Recognize proven effects sound has on water and living organisms
  • List conditions for which there is evidence that sound baths can be beneficial for

Reiki in Dermatology

In this session, participants will discuss reiki, a form of energy healing/therapeutic touch. The workshop will include activities for participants to experience energy healing firsthand, both giving and receiving, and discuss how to apply these concepts and practices in clinic.  

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the evidence supporting reiki in dermatology
  • Describe the principles of reiki and treatment procedure
  • Apply mind-body medicine techniques in dermatology clinic
  • Demonstrate energy practices

The Foot Foundation Workshop: Hacking the Natural Abilities of Feet

This workshop is designed to learn about the importance of feet as a foundation for our body: nervous system (sensory/ propioceptive organ), musculoskeletal system, and even nails. After learning about the basics of the impact of wearing shoes and loss of function that feet experience from traditional shoes, we will be exploring and performing a series of fun (not easy) and essential feet movements to optimize foot function. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Summarize concepts of being barefoot and its role in changing the basis of gait and alignment
  • Review the impact of wearing shoes on foot health and balance
  • Discuss the importance of regular foot routine by relearning the capabilities and impact of feet and their role in preventing sensory aging and fall prevention

Mycotoxins & Mold Testing

This session explores the role of mycotoxins in dermatological conditions. Participants will gain insights into how exposure to these toxic fungal metabolites can influence skin health, contribute to various skin disorders, and complicate treatment strategies. The session will cover common sources of mycotoxins, their mechanisms of action, and approaches for diagnosis and management in dermatology patients. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Define the sources and effects of mold and mold toxins on inflammation
  • Discuss clinical signs and symptoms of mold exposure
  • Evaluate the use of mold testing to assess for mold exposure

After finishing Medical School and Dermatology Residency at the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Bodemer completed a fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. She was the first Dermatologist to be board certified in both Dermatology and Integrative Medicine and currently is the only Dermatologist to serve on the Integrative Medicine Board. She has authored academic texts and curriculum and has spoken widely on a variety of topics related to Integrative Dermatology. She has always been drawn to exploring how lifestyle choices impact skin health and disease and feels that the most powerful role a physician can play is as an educator and guide, empowering people to get healthy and stay healthy.

Dr. Peter Lio is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Pediatrics at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School, completed his internship in Pediatrics at Boston Children's Hospital, and his Dermatology training at Harvard where he served as Chief Resident in Dermatology. Dr. Lio is the founding director of the Chicago Integrative Eczema Center and has spoken nationally and internationally about atopic dermatitis, as well as alternative medicine.

Dr. Raja Sivamani is a board-certified dermatologist and practices as an integrative dermatologist at Pacific Skin Institute. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Clinical Dermatology at the University of California, Davis and Director of Clinical Research and the Clinical Trials Unit.He is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the California State University, Sacramento and an Associate Professor of Dermatology at California Northstate University, College of Medicine.He engages in clinical practice as well as both clinical and translational research that integrates bioengineering, nutrition, cosmetics, and skin biology. With training in both Allopathic and Ayurvedic medicine, he takes an integrative approach to his patients and in his research.He has published over 100 peer-reviewed research manuscripts, 10 textbook chapters, and a textbook entitled Cosmeceuticals and Active Cosmetics, 3rd Edition with a passion for expanding the evidence and boundaries of integrative medicine for skin care.

Dr. Daveluy is a professor and program director at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He earned a bachelor's in science from Michigan State University. He completed medical school and his dermatology residency at Wayne State University.

He holds special interests in teledermatology, noninvasive skin imaging, skin of color, integrative dermatology, and complex medical dermatology, including hidradenitis suppurativa. He is active on AAD committees, including Performance Measure and DataDerm Oversight. He is the past president of the Wayne County Medical Society and Michigan Dermatological Society. He serves on the board of directors of the HS Foundation and editorial board for the JAAD and JAAD Case Reports and is building a growing body of publications of his own. He lives across the border in Windsor, Ontario, Canada with his husband and two very spoiled dogs

Sonal Choudhary, MD is a Board certified Dermatologist and fellowship trained Dermatopathologist, who joined the Department of Dermatology in 2016 upon completion of her Dermatopathology Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Choudhary received her undergraduate degree and medical degree from Vardhman Mahavir Medical College in New Delhi India. She completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Miami, where she remained to complete her Preliminary Internship in Internal Medicine, as well as her Residency Program in Dermatology. Dr. Choudhary is also undergoing a fellowship in Integrative Dermatology which will conclude in February of 2024.

While she offers care for all dermatologic conditions, her areas of clinical interest and research are atopic dermatitis, gut and skin microbiome, integrative dermatology, alternative therapies and approaches (herbs, supplements, functional medicine testing) to inflammatory skin diseases (Hidradenitis suppurativa, Acne, Psoriasis, hair loss), nutrition in cutaneous disease and dermatopathology. She is the director of the adult atopic dermatitis clinic and member of the PCOS collaboration group at UPMC Magee. Given her areas of training, Dr. Choudhary offers a holistic and integrative approach for various skin conditions.
