Welcome to module 7 where we'll review dermatological Hair and Nails!

Hair Part 1: Anatomy and Pathophysiology

This course provides a review of the anatomy and pathophysiology of hair.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the basic components of the hair follicle
  • Identify stages of the hair growth cycle
  • List factors that influence hair growth

Hair Part 2: Diagnosis, Differential, and Conventional Treatment

This course provides a review of the differential diagnoses associated with common hair disorders along with both integrative and traditional treatment options.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Identify common types of hair loss
  • Identify features that are concerning for scaring types of hair loss

Nails: Anatomy, Pathophysiology, and Treatment

This course provides a basic overview of nail anatomy while reviewing common nail disorders, their pathophysiology, and treatment options.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe nail structure and growth
  • Identify common nail disorders
  • List treatment options for common nail conditions

Integrative Approaches to Hair and Nails: Nutrition, Diet and Supplements

This course provides an integrative overview on nutrition, diet and supplement use in common hair and nail disorders.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the impact diet may have on hair and nail health and disease
  • List nutritional patterns that may optimize hair and nail health and function
  • Identify supplements that may help in the treatment of disorders of hair and nails

After finishing Medical School and Dermatology Residency at the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Bodemer completed a fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. She was the first Dermatologist to be board certified in both Dermatology and Integrative Medicine and currently is the only Dermatologist to serve on the Integrative Medicine Board. She has authored academic texts and curriculum and has spoken widely on a variety of topics related to Integrative Dermatology. She has always been drawn to exploring how lifestyle choices impact skin health and disease and feels that the most powerful role a physician can play is as an educator and guide, empowering people to get healthy and stay healthy.
