Welcome to module 5 where we'll review dermatological Infections!

Bacterial Skin Infections

This course will review common bacterial skin infections and different treatment options for them. 

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe various bacterial skin infections seen in the clinical setting including cellulitis, erysipelas, impetigo, and syphilis
  • List conventional and integrative treatments for common bacterial skin infections

Fungal Skin Infections

This course will review common fungal skin infections and different treatment options for them. 

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe common fungal skin infections seen in the clinical setting including tinea, balanitis, seborrheic dermatitis/sebopsoriasis, angular cheilitis, and pityriasis versicolor
  • Identify important differential diagnoses for common fungal infections of the skin
  • List common initial conventional and integrative treatments for common fungal skin infections

Common Viral Infections in Dermatology

This lesson will review common viral skin infections and exanthems. Novel and integrative treatment options will be discussed as well.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Identify & diagnose common viral skin infections and exanthems
  • Discuss both novel and integrative treatments for viral infections on the skin

Parasitic Infestations

This course will identify the most common parasitic skin infestations along with their differential diagnoses. Basic and integrative treatments will be reviewed.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and manage the most common parasitic skin infestations
  • Differentiate mimickers of infestations
  • Review basic treatments and options for alternative therapies when available

After finishing Medical School and Dermatology Residency at the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Bodemer completed a fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. She was the first Dermatologist to be board certified in both Dermatology and Integrative Medicine and currently is the only Dermatologist to serve on the Integrative Medicine Board. She has authored academic texts and curriculum and has spoken widely on a variety of topics related to Integrative Dermatology. She has always been drawn to exploring how lifestyle choices impact skin health and disease and feels that the most powerful role a physician can play is as an educator and guide, empowering people to get healthy and stay healthy.

Fiona Rahbar
MD

Dr. Rahbar is a board certified physician dermatologist and a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. She received her undergraduate training at the University of Pennsylvania and Emory University. Prior to entering medical school, she worked as an English teacher in Argentina before traveling through South America to learn Spanish. After completing four years of medical training at Vanderbilt Medical School she underwent residency training in dermatology at the University of Virginia. She has practiced dermatology in New York, Virginia and is planning to start her practice in Charleston SC in 2025. In her free time she enjoys running, yoga, surfing and ceramics with her family.
