The COVID pandemic has given everyone a crash course in immunology. However, what we learn from the news doesn’t capture the complexity of how our immune system deals with this particular virus. In this course, we will review the immune response to infectious disease as well as how SARS-CoV2 modifies this response. We will discuss the microbiome-immune interface and factors that impact our immune response to infectious disease and vaccination. Finally, we will discuss the latest research on COVID vaccines, including vaccine side effects, booster shots, and the strategy for vaccinating children.
