Welcome to module 11 where we'll review Aesthetics!

Introduction to Aesthetics 

This course will provide an overview of aesthetic procedures summarizing non-invasive and invasive procedures used to address pigment changes, volume loss, rhytide formation and overall skin aging. injectable toxins and fillers will also be reviewed along with other skin rejuvenation methods such a micro-needling, PRP, chemical peeling as well as skin care products for home use.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Define Aesthetic Medicine
  • List the common skin concerns associated with aesthetic medicine and the appropriate treatment options for each  
  • Review minimally-invasive treatment options
  • Discuss integrative treatment approaches such as supplements and cosmeceuticals
  • Review skincare tools for home use

Novel Topical Ingredients and Cosmeceuticals

This course will provide an overview of novel topical ingredients used in skin aesthetics, review common cosmeceuticals used to improve color, texture, tone and laxity of the skin.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe cosmeceuticals and their use
  • Discuss limitations of cosmeceuticals
  • Identify key topical ingredients used in skin aesthetics and cosmeceuticals
  • Review novel topical ingredients used in anti-aging skin care and their use
  • Provide take home pearls for patients interested in cosmeceuticals

OTCs For Esthetics

This course reviews common over the counter medications used in dermatology for esthetic concerns. 

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe factors that go into Over The Counter product choice
  • Understand regulation of OTC skin care products
  • List ingredients available in OTC products for common esthetic concerns

Topical Herbs for Age Management

This course will review the basics of age management including diet, exercise, and environment while reviewing topical herbs frequently used to prevent and improve the signs and symptoms of aging skin.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Review integrative concepts in age management and skin health 
  • Identify specific Chinese herbs for topical use in age management skincare
  • Discuss how to integrate herbal medicine into your routine

Dermatology Coding and Case Based Review

This course will introduce learners to the ICD-10 and CPT codes (USA) necessary for documentation and reimbursement of office visits and procedures performed. This course will review the different levels of office visits and the criteria required during the exam to reach each code level, along with the use of modifiers, and commonly coded for diagnoses and procedure codes.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Recall the new 2021 guidelines to accurately code outpatient visits
  • Apply coding principles to clinical examples
  • Review the use of the add-on code (G2211)

Dr. Berry's credentials include an undergraduate degree from Northwestern University, a Medical Degree from LECOM, Dermatology Residency Training at Orlando Dermatology, a fellowship in Integrative Dermatology, a certification in Ayurvedic Philosophy of Medicine and Nutrition at the BHAGAVAT Culinary School, and an aesthetics and laser fellowship in NYC. As a Clinical Instructor at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, she actively contributes to the field of dermatology. Dr. Berry's expertise has been recognized through publications in esteemed journals and textbooks, along with features in podcasts, magazines, and online articles. Through her innovative approach and passion for holistic care, Dr. Berry invites everyone on a transformative journey towards healthy, radiant skin that reflects their unique beauty, both inside and out.

After finishing Medical School and Dermatology Residency at the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Bodemer completed a fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. She was the first Dermatologist to be board certified in both Dermatology and Integrative Medicine and currently is the only Dermatologist to serve on the Integrative Medicine Board. She has authored academic texts and curriculum and has spoken widely on a variety of topics related to Integrative Dermatology. She has always been drawn to exploring how lifestyle choices impact skin health and disease and feels that the most powerful role a physician can play is as an educator and guide, empowering people to get healthy and stay healthy.

Dr. Joseph Alban is a Doctor of Acupuncture and Board Certified Herbalist. He has run a private practice in New York City for seventeen years.

Dr. Alban graduated from Touro College’s Graduate Program in Oriental Medicine, obtaining a Masters of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and completed a Doctor of Acupuncture at Five Branches Univerisity. He completed a Chinese Medicine hospital residency in Hunan, China where he trained in acupuncture, Chinese medicine dermatology, and Tui Na medical massage.

He has received the Traditional Chinese Medicine Dermatology Diploma from world-renowned expert Mazin Al-Khafaji. Dr. Alban sits on the board of the International Traditional Chinese Medicine Dermatology Association (ITCMDA). He is also the Traditional Chinese Medicine editor for Learn Skin and on the board for the Integrative Dermatology Symposium. He is the head editor and a contributing author of the ebook An Introduction to Chinese Medicine Dermatology which resulted from a collaboration of the ITCMDA and Learn Skin.

Dr. Raja Sivamani is a board-certified dermatologist and practices as an integrative dermatologist at Pacific Skin Institute. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Clinical Dermatology at the University of California, Davis and Director of Clinical Research and the Clinical Trials Unit.He is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the California State University, Sacramento and an Associate Professor of Dermatology at California Northstate University, College of Medicine.He engages in clinical practice as well as both clinical and translational research that integrates bioengineering, nutrition, cosmetics, and skin biology. With training in both Allopathic and Ayurvedic medicine, he takes an integrative approach to his patients and in his research.He has published over 100 peer-reviewed research manuscripts, 10 textbook chapters, and a textbook entitled Cosmeceuticals and Active Cosmetics, 3rd Edition with a passion for expanding the evidence and boundaries of integrative medicine for skin care.
