Itch is the hallmark symptom of atopic dermatitis and the major source of patient suffering. In caring for these patients, it is important to understand the underlying mechanism and the manner in which treatments target these mechanisms to reduce pruritus. This lecture will formulate an approach for the treatment of different types of AD itch and describe upcoming drugs in clinical targeting of itch and AD.
Learning Objectives
Dr. Gil Yosipovitch is a Professor of Dermatology at the Miller School of Medicine at University of Miami, and Director of the Miami Itch Center. The Itch Center focuses on diagnosing and treating chronic itch of different types, conducting research on neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of itch in humans and animal models and developing anti pruritic drugs that target the neural system.
